Relationship Counselling
We begin by focusing on how each individual processes their experience of the relationship (particularly their emotional responses) along with patterns of interaction over four key areas: intimacy, decision making, communicating and commitment.
Sometimes we get stuck in dysfunctional ways of reacting to each other. Relationship counselling moves couples toward sensitive, flexible responses that support intimate and secure bonds.
These responses can move us:
-
From feeling isolated to emotional engagement and expression
-
From defensive behaviour and self-protection to open collaboration
-
From hopelessness about the future to actively creating your life together
-
From attributing blame to your partner to understanding how your own behaviour discourages care and intimacy
Primarily, we strive to build a sense of connectedness.
Along the way, both partners usually expand and change their inner experience, self-awareness, and relationship skills, ultimately leading to new responses and a relationship that is right for you.
