About the Work
At Yass Counselling we integrate counselling and psychotherapy. We will be with you, advise you, sometimes catch you as we collaborate with you to find direction.
We see each of our clients as unique in the world and we know that you can develop the resources you need to resolve your problems and build the skills necessary to live your life the way you want it to be.
We will work very hard to understand you, so that whatever approach we take together is right for you, with the resources you have, surrounded by the people in your life, taking you in the direction you want to head.
As we struggle to find solutions in life, whatever the problem, if we focus on the direction (figuring out what you really, really want) we often find clarity.
Once we can articulate what that is, we use an integrated approach: the right therapy for the right situation.
Our Approach
There is no such thing as a "normal" person.
We strive to understand you, and the problem you have right now.
We typically use a combination of different approaches, because there is no therapy that is most effective all the time.
Success depends on the nature of your problem, the relationship you form with your counsellor and the way you have been taught to solve problems in life.
Together, we analyse your feelings, thought processes and behavioural responses so we can pinpoint the true problem.
We combine talk therapy with pragmatic problem-solving and decision making, critical thinking skills, education and support, so you can decide how you respond to your problem.
Sometimes we realise that the problem is deeper than we had imagined. If you want to, we go to those places and resolve those issues.

Managing Stress and Anxiety

What we stand for:
Bodily Integrity: All people should be able to move freely from place to place; to be secure against violent assault, including sexual assault and domestic violence; having opportunity for sexual satisfaction.
Senses, Imagination, Thoughts: All people use the senses to imagine, think and reason; they should be able to have pleasurable experiences and avoid non-beneficial pain.
Emotions: All people have attachments to things and people outside themselves. They love those who love and care for them. They grieve at their absence. All people should be able to love, to grieve and to experience longing, gratitude and justified anger without having their emotional experience blighted by fear and anxiety.
Practical Reason: All people have a conception of what is Good and Right. They shoud always be able to engage in critical reflection about the planning of their life.
My partner and I saw Greg for couples counselling and, funnily enough, found it to be one of the best experiences of our relationship. He has an easygoing, nonjudgmental style that made us feel instantly at ease, and was able to comprehend and communicate concepts in a way that was so accessible and genuinely helpful. While - thanks largely to his guidance! - we don't need his services anymore, we're both in agreement that we'll be seeking him out if we ever do in the future. Thanks Greg, we still talk about our sessions with you and how you really helped us strengthen and appreciate our bond :-)
------------
Our (teenager) was struggling with life, school, trasitioning into the world of work, with no sense of diretion or purpose. We agonised for a while, but eventually took the plunge and made an appointment with Greg. After two sessions we noticed real change. It was like a switch had been turned on in our (young person) and they were very quickly up and running again. They have since graduated, taken then own direction and are on their way to fulfilling their promise.
